They cost almost as much as new laptop (about $600). Using a monitor is a great option for now. Man, what a bummer. Hopefully you can get it fixed soon! Does it still run except sans screen? <BR/><BR/>If so you should be able to plug a regular computer monitor into the laptop (most have a switch I guess to switch between using an external monitor and the "internal" monitor) and you should be good to go.<BR/><BR/>That way you could at least retrieve everything ON the laptop!
