They are done. I have officially joined the ranks of knitters who have made Jaywalker socks. Usually, I'm not one to follow trends, but when everybody is knitting a pattern because it's just plain cool-looking or fun, I don't see a reason to resist.
Details:
Pattern: Jaywalkers
Yarn: 2 skeins of Shepherd Sport in Amethyst Stripe, but I have quite a lot left over
Size: Small
Needles US#0
Modifications: One heel with slipped stitches, the other without (see below).
The one with the slipped stitches fits just a tiny bit better, but I'm not ripping because of this. Who is going to stare at my heels? I am, however, going to make sure I'm carrying both socks next time I'm knitting a second sock -- and reading the instructions carefully. Bad things happen to knitters who get too cocky. "Oh, I remember how to knit this heel from the first sock, from about 3 months ago" is asking for trouble. I got off lightly, all things considered.
And because it's late and I'm sleepy, I'd like to share the Cat Nap Special. Morgana's favorite sleeping spot is this corner of Mr. Batty's computer desk, right next to the monitor. She prefers this spot to beds and laps.
Merlin likes the upstairs landing. Here, we see him sleeping in his favorite spot, right between the two cat beds we placed in front of our bedroom door for their convenience. Who would actually want to sleep IN a cat bed? That would be boring.
Also not boring is the inside of our laundry basket. I wish he hadn't moved because just before I took this picture, he had burrowed under a bunch of clothes, and only his tail was sticking out. Merlin loves the laundry basket, and he'll purr like a mad fool when he's in it.
We don't have any pictures of the wet cat. His Merlinness decided to investigate the bath tub while Mr. Batty was taking a bath. And he fell in. This cat is fast! I chased him down with a towel, though he didn't really want to be held, not to mention scrubbed dry. Poor kitty.
The Morehouse Merino mini-haul is up next. Possibly also another FO... I'll try.

Those look great - I'm loving the purpley stripes. And, you're right - I didn't even notice the heel difference until you pointed it out!
Those are some super-cute kittens, but they're making me sleepy just looking at them...*yawn*
Oh, they look great! I love Jaywalkers, but I'm a bit biased - they were the first socks I knit :)
Gorgeous Jaywalkers! I did a pair out of Sockotta Cotton (not a good idea!)
What I want to know is how the spinning is coming along? New wheel, any chance to play with it yet?? It's fun!
I love the socks, that is a pretty color. I love the stories of Merlin and Morgana, would we expect anything less from two magical kitties...
Lovely Jaywalkers! Eh, who needs matchy matchy heels anyway. ;)
LOL on the sleepy cat pics! How funny that Morgana prefers a stack of papers and file folders to a nice, comfy lap.
Hey, maybe if you put the cat bed *in* the hamper...
Ah, cats - they have all too strong opinions ;)
Nice Jaywalkers!
I've got a cat that loves nesting in paper too...silly kitties!
Congrats on your Jaywalkers! The different heels just mean that you can have an official left and right sock. :)
The "kids" are adorable, as usual... :)
My cat Lilith is a wool freak. It's like catnip to her. Her favorite place to sleep is in my big basket of yarn.
I should knit her a kitty bed...
The socks look great! I love the color.
Speaking of wet cats -- Thomas used to get in the very back corner of the shower with me when he was a kitten. He didn't want me out of his sight. I still can't figure out just how he kept from getting soaking wet.
Purpley Jaywalkers! Yay!
What to hear another cat story? Okay!
One of my kitties (Izzy) likes to sleep in the washing machine, on the dirty clothes. I'm constantly afraid that I'm going to wash him.
I love the fact that you have two different heels!
Love the socks! LOL @ the cat falling into the bath, poor baby! When I was in highschool, there was this massive black lab, Spike, who would come and visit with us. When I say "visit" the first time he showed up, we brought him in, and called his owner, a bachelor who loved about a half mile away. He went home, but then kept coming back. I guess he liked us, our other dog, and whatnot. So sometimes he'd stay for a while, we'd just call his owner to let him know he was with us. His one weird thing (all dogs have a weird thing), is he loved to be in the bath with you when you showered. He'd barrel his way in and leap into the tub, which scared me in a very "psycho" way the first time it happened. He's just hang out in there for as long as you were showering. It was quite funny, and weird.
The Jaywalkers came out AWESOME! I love them!
Ooo..pretty purple socks! And leave it to a cat to lay where he's not supposed to. My cat has officially made my yarn table his comfy bed. Ugh. Now I have cat hair everywhere.
You did a good job with your jay-walkers. They're very pretty. I'm still not going to knit socks though!!!
Your kitties are adorable. I love that they sleep everywhere except the cat bed! Sally's favorite place to sleep is on whatever I'm reading and/or working on. That and in the middle of my bed.
Very nice Jaywalkers! I like the two different heels.
Maybe you could use the leftovers for a headband? Or a pair of baby socks?
I just love that picture of the cat sleeping next to, but not in, the cat beds. So typical of cats!!!! They have minds of their own...
I'm making my first pair of Jaywalkers too. Did you have any trouble with them being too small on your first try, like so many other people have complained about?
You make me want kittens.
Your jaywalkers turned out nice. :)
Your Jaywalkers look awesome - and my, your kitties are ever so cute!!!
Cute kitties and excellent socks there!! Love the colors!
The socks look great. I loooooove purple.
And the cats.....never try to understand cats! I love the picture of the cat on the floor beside the cat beds. :)
Funny... one of our cats loves laundry baskets too. I don't so much ind when she's sleeping in my husband's dirty clothes, but I hate when she finds my clean stuff! Jaywalkers look lovely! The ILG were time consuming do to several charts to follow, but they do look great! Can't wait to see yours!
Kittens!!! CUTE!!!
YAY for socks also!
Pretty socks! I haven't knit a pair yet so you are more with it than me. Lol
What a sweet pic of Morgana. Cats are crazy, you know? We used to have a cat that would sit on the edge of the tub while I took a bubble bath and she would stick her paw in the bubbles, scoop up a pawful and eat the bubbles. Crazy cat.
Love purple!
I wouldn't knit that Pegasus for all the cashmere in China. Too much background.
Wonderful socks! I love the jaywalker pattern! I want to try them toe-up sometime!
The kittens are purrrrrfectly adorable. I miss having a cat! They really are such a pleasure!
Your Jaywalkers are so pretty!
And I love the kitties! They're growing soooooooo fast!
Nice Work! (Sigh...Someday I will once again be able to some knitting that requires a bit more concentration.)
Off subject, but I thought you should know about this home dec item I came across:

MJ (from Tuesday knitting @ Borders)
Asymmetrical = Good
I did a pair out of some obscure yarn with crazy color stripes. They are super warm and I save them for the coldest days.
I am not a cat person, but seriously, your cats make me want a kittie so bad. Strange.
Love the jaywalkers. I like the semi solidish look to them.
They look gorgeous! Which is the "correct" heel? I like the one on the right better.
Nice socks! I haven't made Jaywalkers yet, but I really like how yours turned out.
So funny about kitty falling in the bath :-)
LOL, sounds like kittens are keeping you busy. the socks look great and you're right no one will notice your heel.
