Summer Slump

It's been weeks since my last post. I wish I could say that is because I am living this incredibly exciting life and we are having more fun than we know what to do with, but alas, our activities have been a bit more... well, boring. Here's a list:

  • House hunting
  • House cleaning
  • Sorting out clothes I haven't worn in years and donating them to goodwill or selling them on eBay
  • Getting stains out of the carpet all over the house (well, Mr. Batty did most of the work on that one)
  • Setting up an appointment with a painter so we can get difficult-to-paint parts of the house fixed up. A fresh coat of paint will help us sell this place -- or at least that's what we're hoping.
So, as you can see, lots of work. Relatively little knitting, which is why I'm posting about the other thing librarians like to talk about: What I'm reading.
I always have several books going, but the one I'm reading right now is Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann. It's a murder mystery in which a herd of sheep are trying to find out who murdered their shepherd. Yes, you heard me, a murder mystery with sheep detectives!
I'm not very far in yet, but I love the author's sense of humor. Very tongue in cheek yet utterly charming. And not to mention... sheep.
I guess one could say it's somewhat knitting related.
But, knitting or no, how can one not like a book that starts with a list of characters appropriately captioned Dramatis Oves?

What a clever plot! I'm definitely going to add that to my reading list!

I've avoided all the "knitting mystery" type books so far because they haven't appealed to me, but I like the sound of a book about that most dangerous of animals, clever sheep. :-)

And good luck with the house hunting!

Keep us posted on if you like the book! It sounds like a good read!!

Good luck with the house hunting! That can be soooooo time consuming, but exciting too!

REminds me of the Sesame Street sheep, they were pretty smart weren't they?

I'm hard pressed to blog about anything all that interesting lately too.

Sheep detectives? I'm in!

And I'll start sending smooth house selling vibes. It's such an unpleasant time, getting a house ready to sell. I hope it all goes quickly for you, so you can get back to the important things, like yarn.

That sounds like a fun book! I've been looking for something new to read...

Good luck with house hunting and selling!

House hunting and selling are both a lot of work. When I was shopping for a condo several years ago (I was a first-time home buyer), a friend said the most important thing to get was a large bottle of Advil. She was right. :-)

Good luck with everything!

That does sound like an interesting read - I'll have to see if I can get it for my Kindle...hmmm...

Any major house stuff is a total time and life sink - best of luck to you with it!! It will bring you to better places, I'm sure. :)

I took 3 garbage bags to Goodwill myself this weekend. It's amazing how much room there is in my closet and drawers with a little weeding... :)

BTW - at some point I need your email address! I keep wanting to reply when you comment on my blog - only to realize I don't have it. :(

You're not supposed to be reading, you're supposed to be knitting socks!! ;-))

The book sounds good. I'm not a fan of knitting themed books either, like Kate, but that sounds good. But I'm still trying to finish a couple of books on the history of Belgian Congo/Zaire, so I'm staying out of the library for now.

The house hunting sounds fun to me! Moving always sounds exciting until you have to pack and then eventually unpack!

**selling vibes** heading your way! (Jimmy thinks he's found another house for us to look at...we'll see what happens.)

I'd heard about that book. So it's not twee? I'll have to find one to read.

I'm going to look around for this book in audio. It sounds fun.

We are house hunting. Its stressing me out so bad. I haven't been knitting much either, so I hear you. Trying to sell and buy, well that's just too much for me to imagine. I give you muchos credit.

I need to sort clothes SO badly. It's been the one thing I just can't get off my butt and do!

Sheep detectives? Well I'll be damned.

I'm with ya. Been pretty mundane at my place too. However, this is the stuff of life!

Oh girl, I'm with ya on the summer slump. Mostly because all I do is walk and drink water. Good luck on the househunting!!!
