Sock Progress!

There has been sock progress.
First off, I cast on Fawkes, which I think of as my Momma Monkey Memorial Socks. She was a very talented designer, and I think she would have loved the bright orange yarn I've picked for this project. Cast on only a few days ago, I'm already done with the cuff -- unless I add another pattern repeat. But I'm afraid I'll run out of yarn if I do that.

And now, a picture of the formerly frustrating toe-up heel! Thanks so much for all the help. Once the concept behind the toe-up heel clicked, I figured out that I was supposed to sl1, k 14 till the marker -- because the next line mentioned 15 stitches on each DPN. Which worked beautifully with the k2tog at the end of the previous row, because it reduced my stitches from 16 to 15. All is well, and the sock fits beautifully.

By the way, the pattern is available for free here!
Other than the tiny miscount, it's very well written and makes for a great first toe-up sock knitting experience.

Ooooh, I like your orange! What yarn is that? I'm in an orange phase too--makes me think of cool tangerines or Orange Crush soda.

Ya know, they really cry out for some cute stitch markers...

Hooey! That's a bright orange!

I'll stick to cuff down. That yarn on your toe ups is beautiful.

Someday I'll catch the sock fever. Really I will. I love sock yarn, though, so that helps.

I love that orange. I think its slowly becoming my new favorite color. Can't wait to see the progress. :) Glad you got the heel situation straightened out. Are you a total convert? I still like the top down.

Love the start of Fawkes! Your toe up is coming along beautifully! I do like that pattern too! May have to cast on for it soon! Glad the pattern clicked and you are on your way to completion!

The orange color is perfect for Fawkes, really perfect.

I love the PC Rose colorway, although I can't stop thinking of it as Christmas :p

Yay for you not quiting! It looks fab.

I started a pair of toe-up socks, but frogged them later because I let them lag so long that my guage was totally different when I picked them back up.

Suddenly a wealth of posts! Those orange socks are going to keep your feet hot! The man socks of the other day are great. I love that textural pattern. I usually knit toe-up socks and I've never done a flap heel. I always give up and go for the afterthought. So kudos to you!

LOVE the orange sock! Haven't done the monkey's yet, they're on my list.

Thanks for the link on the toe up, I've yet to try knitting socks this way.
