It's a Phase

Have you ever taken pictures of your knitting, only to realize that you seem to be going through some kind of phase? Maybe it's all red. Or every piece you've worked on in the past month has moss stitch in it. Or you've only been knitting socks. And the phase wasn't really a conscious choice.

I'm currently obsessed with cables. Everything I'm knitting, from socks to hats to sweaters, has cables in it. It wasn't until I wanted to take pictures of my WIPs that I noticed. Cables don't photograph well with flash -- or if they do, I haven't figured out how, and... it's all cables.

What knitting-related thing have you obsessed over in the past -- or are currently obsessing over? Now that I've noticed it in myself, I wonder what others have found irresistible.

I still can't shake the pink obsession. All I want to knit is pink. You'd think I would be sick of it, but today at the LYS I had to walk slowly away from the yarn to keep myself from buying more pink.

Cables are addictive. Once I learned how, I was putting cables on everything. Just go with the flow.

I seem to be on a cable kick too. Dunno why, I have to think!

Totally! I think it is the fall/winter thing. I get cable obsessed too! Lately for me it has been garter stitch!!

For me it's socks and blue, but I think anyone could have figured that out. ;)

I don't think it's going to stop any time soon.

Ich merke immer an meinen Wollkäufen, welche Phase ich gerade durchlebe. Dieses Jahr habe ich viel in grün-blau gekauft. Letztes Jahr hatte ich noch den Pink-türkis-Fimmel.

Liebe Grüße
Mary

I love seeing the cables build up - it's one of my favourite things about knitting.

Hilarious!!! I've been obsessed with cables lately as well, to the point where I posted on Facebook about it today. I just LOVE cables!

Green and purple (separately) seem to be my color obsession as late.

Seed stitch. I love the way it looks and feels.

"You know what'd make this pattern better? A seed-stitch border!"

"But it's fine-gauge 2x2 ribbing through the whole body. Why would you..."

"SEED STITCH!"

Cables photograph better if you shine a light diagonally across them to bring out the relief detail.

Other than the baby knitting (not to twist the knife, but it's how I'm nesting), it's lace shawls. And yet I can't afford enough yarn at any one time to make the size of shawl I actually prefer. *sigh*

Toys.

Although I'm currently obsessing over Aran sweaters. Haven't started one, but I am drooling.

The current obsession is using up single skeins/impulse buys.. hence I'm working with a baby loop mohair at the moment.

It's actually a lot softer and warmer than I thought it would be.

I'm looking forward to finding that obsession RIGHT NOW. I expect the first wave will be startitis.

Seriously, though, I'm finding that I keep returning to pages that combine garter stitch with other things. Garter stitch with lace. Garter stitch with cables.

Socks. Always socks...but I think you already knew it.

Last year cables had their place on the needles, though. Even on the socks!

Early this year it was lace (which, yes, found its way onto socks....).

Sometimes I am all too predictable!

Red. I love red. I just ordered two new red dyes. Can't get enough red.

And speaking of red, you can order those red and black batts from Knitty and Color on Etsy. I gave a link to her store in my blog post. Have fun!

I go through a cable phase during the fall too!

Except, this fall, it's been stockinette! LOL

Currently I'm obsessed with weaving or knitting anything blue and weaving or knitting shawls.
