New Job Yarn and a Forgotten Resolution

Wow. My head is spinning, I'm tired, but I think some aspects of my new responsibilities are beginning to sink in. Others are still as mysterious as they were a couple of days ago, maybe even more so. But this is fun and exciting, and I think taxonomy and I are going to be very good friends soon -- so much broader than cataloging, so much more opportunity to come up with something truly unique and appropriate.

Anyhow, this is a knitting blog, not a knowledge management blog. So first off, I would like to thank everybody for the many sock suggestions. I love all of those patterns, and I have different stash yarns in mind for every single one of them. This should really help with the stash busting!
I'm going out for New Job Yarn today, but that's my last yarn shopping expedition until Rhinebeck, to which Eileen and I have promised ourselves we're going, come hell or high water. By then, my stash should be nice and small, completely devoid of ambient yarn. What's ambient yarn, you ask? It's the stuff that's floating around my yarn closet because it doesn't fit in any of the 3 storage bins. Or the ugly lime green travel thingy I bought at Jo-Ann's and promptly filled up with yarn. Ahem.

So, pictures of my New Job Yarn are coming up. In the meantime, let me add the Forgotten New Year's Resolution to my list. You guys have reminded me that there's sixteenth one I'd completely forgotten to list:

Learn to knit socks toe up. Because I never have, and because there are so many beautiful patterns for toe-up socks. I want to be able to knit them.

So glad the first day went well! Enjoy the new job yarn shopping!!!! Can't wait to see what you get!

And I haven't knit socks toe-up either, but I think last months Socks that Rock club shipment may tempt me (gorgeous yarn + Cat Bordhi...what the heck!).

Yarn shopping - I swore I was done and then I promised to knit my sister an afghan and well the SoTSii and there's this sock club I like.
I have a number of projects on the needles and just had to start another toe up sock. YOU CAN DO IT! (just watch the turning stitch in the magic cast on)

Thanks for the comment! The shoes are quite comfortable. I got another pair of Vans for Christmas that will go up this week probably. I have a hard time taking pictures of things that aren't already at my house. Congrats on the new job, that's always interesting, and with new yarn as well!

Is there anything nicer than new job yarn? :) I'm so glad it sounds like you got the perfect fit and are going to really enjoy your work. Nothing is better than that.

New job yarn! And a delightful start, at that. Congratulations again - it sounds like a lot of fun.

Did you see the article in IK a few issues ago with the generic toe-up patterns? I was just thinking about it today, before The Economist's half-finished sweater smacked me and demanded undivided attention.

For a minute there, I thought you got a new job doing taxidermy. Must check my glasses...

I have no idea how to wear that shawl and I don't care--I just want to rub it all over me :)

Oooh, ooh, learn the Magic Cast On.

The first round is fiddly, but it's fun and much easier to knit the "increase toe" (as I keep calling it -- I don't know if it has a proper name) than a traditional short-row toe. :D
